I actually contacted Dell about the issue and they told me that they did not support Windows 7 until October 22nd. After the initial install failed, I tried to update the driver and searched the folder created by the failed installation.

It found a driver it liked and installed it. I guess the incompatibility was with the.exe file and not the driver itself. Here is the link for the drivers: They are both under Vista 32-bit Chipset: IntelAMT-HECIA00R192786.exe IntelAMT-SOL-LMSA00R192787.exe As of now, all drivers are installed and working properly. No problems on the laptop of on the network.

Aznetworks - the CD is a low probability, but I've seen it before, and doing RIS install is a pretty convenient thing to set up in the first place, so I'm thinking of killing a few birds with one stone. But my money is on POwerEdgeTech's advice of looking into the Dell openmanage CD, if one exists that supports your model. Odds favor driver issue, not CD or CD firmware. Which leads me to another point, I have seen CD drives that work fine under WInXP, but once the same machine is booted to Vista the CD stops working, due to firmware/BIOS issues. Not saying this is the case, but again with a network install, you eliminate media, CD drive, CD firmware, BIOS incompatibility with CD drive hardware, so at very least you eliminate a lot of possibilities and save time.
